Behavior and Discipline in Our Class
In our classroom, we will work for all children to be respectful, responsible, and safe. Every day, we will study and practice respective, responsible, and safe behaviors. This socio-emotional learning will be embedded in many of our academic activities. The focus will be on learning desired behaviors. While there will be consequences for undesired behaviors, we are not punitive and will not yell at or shame children who do not meet behavior expectations. When a child is consistently falling short of expectations, I will contact you. Together we will work on a plan to support your child in improving behaviors, just as we would if your child needed extra support with reading or math.

Conscious Discipline (CD)Conscious Discipline is an approach to creating a positive environment at school and at home. It is a philosophy that teachers and parents can and should integrate socio-emotional learning into their interactions with children. CD gives us tools to help children develop self-regulation. Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS)PBIS seeks to create and maintain a positive school climate by reducing or eliminating poor behavior through the encouragement of positive behaviors. Like Conscious Discipline, it is not a scripted program, but it is a philosophy that teaching positive behavior is more effective than punishing misbehavior. PBIS provides educators with methods and tools for teaching positive behaviors. Read more about PBIS at
